The Cowboys have been active in free agency, but one move stands out for some more than others.
Say what you want about the Dallas Cowboys' offseason, but there's no denying that there has been a shift in how the franchise has moved.
Free agents have been signed, and not too many have walked out the door, as Brian Schottenheimer, in his second offseason, looks to fix the defense.
Christian Parker is now the defensive coordinator, and he has a couple of new pieces to work with: Rashan Gary, Cobie Durant, PJ Locke, and Jalen Thompson.
For most, that isn't enough, with linebacker still being a glaring need, but the Cowboys have moved with an intentionality that we haven't seen in years.
There was a clear plan, and time will tell if they executed it.
But looking at all of the deals Dallas has made, none were "bust the budget" moves or big needle-movers.
However, they were good signings.
In fact, Fox Sports' Eric Williams, in his top 10 under-the-radar signings, has Durant coming to Dallas at No. 8.
"A versatile, playmaking cornerback who mostly fills a need as a slot defender, Durant will not only be an upgrade to the Cowboys' secondary, but he'll improve the backend of their defense on a pretty valuable contract," Williams wrote.
"Dallas signed Durant to a team-friendly deal that includes $1.5 million in guaranteed money. Durant has seven career interceptions, including two returned for four touchdowns in four NFL seasons. Durant played in a multiple, 3-4 base scheme with the Rams, and should help as the Cowboys transition to a 3-4 scheme with new defensive coordinator Christian Parker."
A cheap deal for a veteran who can help be the glue for Parker in the secondary, and be a guiding light for a defense that was all at sea last season.
Some might look to Gary and the chance he might replicate his strong start to 2025 in Parker's defense as another option.
But in Durant, the Cowboys are getting a player who is fresh off a good season with the Los Angeles Rams, can be versatile, and, most of all, is a good communicator.
We lost count of how many times last season Dallas' defense struggled to line up properly due to poor communication. The hope is that it won't happen in 2026.
Durant an under-the-radar signing?
If he can be what the Cowboys think he can, then he is absolutely a candidate.
