Milton was the star of the show in Arizona, and he detailed why he was able to play so freely against the Cardinals.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton has been one of the biggest successes of the offseason, and against the Arizona Cardinals in a 34-13 preseason win on Saturday, Joe was sublime.
Getting the start, Milton would play the first half, and go 9 of 13 for 179 yards and a touchdown, plus a rushing touchdown thrown in there as well.
In truth, Milton's performance was exactly what you wanted to see.
A confident player, who got the ball out on time, managed the line of scrimmage the best he has since arriving in Dallas, plus he also showed some touch on his passes, which is a nice change-up from the 100 mph fastballs we saw last offseason.
Also, Joe's ability to scramble to keep a play alive, but not to pick up yards with his legs, instead, extend the play, and find a teammate downfield (Malik Davis TD) was also noticeable.
And Milton detailed that his confidence and comfort level are night and day from last year.
"Was able to go out there and showcase what I got, what we've been working hard towards this whole camp," Milton said. "It was great. My comfort level was amazing, shoot, way more confident than I was last year."
Sports is 90 percent above the shoulders, and it certainly feels like Milton has gotten a proper handle on the offense now.
Another year in the system, learning the verbiage, his teammates, and everything in between, we are seeing a much more confident Milton on the field.
And when asked what he is most proud of this offseason, Joe gave a surprising answer, but it also gave us a peek behind the curtain as to what it was like for him last year.
"I'm able to go in the huddle and just say the play clear, telling guys where they need to go, and if guys have questions in a huddle, I'm able to answer those," Milton said. "Just making sure with my coach and making sure that I'm right. I'm able to be confident enough to tell them what they got in the huddle and demand that for them guys."
There have been a lot of winners to come out of Dallas' two preseason games, and for me, Milton - who is still jousting with Sam Howell for the important job of backup to Dak Prescott - is at the top of the list.
Everything we wanted to see from him, we have in two games.
And right now, you can easily make the case he is QB2 behind Dak Prescott.
