A toxic social media feud with Jayden Daniels and mounting legal troubles have likely ended Brandon Aiyuk’s chances of joining the Commanders or the Cowboys this season.
FRISCO - Brandon Aiyuk was never going to be a problem as a member of the Dallas Cowboys offense, no matter what nonsense oddsmakers have tried to push.
And now, it seems, the Pro Bowl receiver isn’t going to be a problem as an opponent of the Cowboys defense.
The Dallas offense, led by Dak Prescott, looks to be on track to again be one of the better units in football, with George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb as Dak's top two All-Pro-level weapons.
Behind them is Ryan Flournoy, who showed promise last season and was rewarded with a move up the depth chart to the WR3 spot.
Those facts, however, haven't stopped some outsiders from suggesting that troubled knucklehead Aiyuk - who is in limbo as a member of the San Francisco 49ers - is or should be on Dallas’ wish list.
In reality, new developments - disturbing developments -.have probably erased him from every team's wish list ... including that of Dallas' rivals the Washington Commanders.
A few weeks ago, according to Polymarket, the Cowboys were among the favorites to sign Aiyuk. It was nonsense, of course.
A few weeks ago, it was also sort of "understood'' that Aiyuk would end up with the Commanders, in large part because he was BFFs with Washington QB Jayden Daniels in college.
Ooops.
Recently, a video clip showed Daniels laughing when a fan yelled, "(Expletive] Brandon Aiyuk!''
This seemingly bothered the receiver, who then unfollowed the QB on social media and posted, "Tf always so funny lil (expletive). Turn your savage up."
Then Aiyuk posted again, asserting that Daniels told him, "You on my team now, you follow my rules."
Aiyuk responded, "I'm a grown (expletive) man, boy. You gonna have to start running behind yo mama and I might believe what you talking about. But until then, mm-mm."
And on and on it's gone, to the point at which it has become self-destructive for Aiyuk's career ... and maybe even for him as a person.
There has been speculation that Aiyuk and Daniels are just goofing around. But even in that unlikely case, why would any team want to entangle themselves into this lunacy?
Maybe Washington will. But Dallas certainly will not.
Aiyuk hasn't played any football since 2024. There are questions of how healthy he be as he comes off having torn his ACL, MCL and meniscus against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 20, 2024. There is a warrant out for his arrest regarding a speeding ticket.
And even before this bizarre exchange, Aiyuk's behavior in San Francisco has been frighteningly erratic.
Such was the backlash that the 49ers finally voided the guarantees in his pricy $30 million APT contract. ... as they now try to give him away for most anything in trade.
As we see too often in the NFL, we focus on concern about guys like Aiyuk as players. And in doing so, we're missing an important point.
Based on his behavior, forget Aiyuk to Dallas. Forget even Aiyuk to Washington. The concern here should be about Aiyuk as a person.
