The Cowboys have added another receiver to the mix this offseason, signing Jaden Smith.
The Dallas Cowboys have continued to add to their roster as training camp comes into view.
The Cowboys, after signing UDFA receiver Romello Brinson, have now gone back to the receiver pool and signed Jaden Smith.
A UDFA with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, Smith never got the chance to show what he can do in an NFL offense after posting 849 yards and 7 TDs for Nevada in 2024 due to an undisclosed injury that forced him to sit the entire 2025 season.
Now he comes to the Cowboys as part of a deep receiver room, looking to make a name for himself in the hope that either Dallas or another NFL team takes a shot on him.
Physically imposing at 6'6", Smith is a red zone matchup nightmare, but can also get downfield in a hurry, according to draft experts.
What makes him an interesting proposition is his reliable hands. A receiver has got ot be able to catch the ball, and Smith does it better than most.
So, he is a draft throw and a player who helps Dallas get closer to its 90-man roster this offseason.
But with Anthony Smith, Traeshon Holden, Tyler Johnson, Brinson, Camden Brown, and Jordan Hudson, there is a logjam of receivers ahead of the top players in CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Ryan Flournoy.
So, Smith is going to have his work cut out to make an impact this offseason, and if you thought he was a shot at drastically climbing the depth chart, our own Mike Fisher poured cold water on that.
"Who is Jaden Smith? Rookie UDFA a year ago with the Bucs," Fish said on The Fish Report. "Did not quite make it. 6-foot-6 receiver. Jaden Smith has put up of himself on social media. He's doing this catch and beautiful, 6-6 wide receiver. Bring him on.
"I'm seeing a lot of people say why are we trying to create competition for CeeDee, replace George Pickens? No, no, no. Just a 6'6 [camp] body."
So, a pure depth piece, and most knew that, and it is going to be interesting to see who out of the group I mentioned above, flashes the most over the duration of mandatory minicamp and then training camp.
Smith is a pure dart throw/camp body. That's it.
He's got his chance after being moved on by the Buccaneers, and time will tell if he can make any sort of impact for Dallas in the coming months.
