When it comes to Brian Schottenheimer's first year as Dallas Cowboys head coach, opinions differ on how successful the season has been.
We know that Brian sees playoffs as the obvious pass mark.
Others feel that, given what has transpired this season, the roster's progression and development are positive.
Either way, everyone's opinion on what Schottenheimer's first year as head coach can be different.
But what about the thoughts of Jerry Jones?
The Cowboys sit at 6-7-1 with three games left and playoffs are just about out of reach.
That isn't a great spot to be.
Yet Jerry couldn't have been more impressed with what he's seen from the first-year head coach.
“He’s had an outstanding year," Jones said. "He’s technically as sound as you can draw up. We like really his philosophy of how to play football. We’ve had some adversity this year, he’s met it head on. Bottom line is, I’m very pleased with his first year as coach.”
When you factor in everything that Brian has had to deal with in his first season, results aside, it is impressive.
Yes, the wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs were superb, but missing the playoffs is a big drawback.
Still, having to deal with the Micah Parsons trade a week before the season began and the tragedy of Marshawn Kneeland's passing, Schottenheimer has had to handle two things that could have broken the team.
Instead, he galvanized the locker room and led them out of that adversity.
For most, Dallas missing the playoffs means the 2025 season won't have a pass mark, and there is merit to that. It is the reason they play football. To make the playoffs and have a shot at winning a Super Bowl.

That wasn't met this season.
But perhaps there are other ways to judge Schottenheimer's success, and maybe the off-field side of his job is where the most positives lie.
Either way, Jerry is happy with Brian's first year, despite no playoffs for the second straight season.
Make of that what you will.
