Getting Christian Parker's vision for the Dallas Cowboys' defense off the ground was always going to take time.
From the install at OTAs to training camp, and now as the team prepares for the New York Giants in Week 1, it has been a whirlwind offseason defensively for Dallas.
We have seen at times the defense get the better of the offense in Oxnard, plus the joint practices against the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints, where the defense had their moments too; it has been a fruitful offseason.
But now we are getting down to the nitty-gritty, where Parker is dotting his I's and crossing his T's in preparation for the "real stuff" at MetLife Stadium.
And for team captain and defensive stud Quinnen Williams, what he's seen from the defense on day 1 to now, has been nothing short of superb, and he can't wait to see how it all comes together.
"The growth, it's like night and day," Williams said. "Starting in OTAs, and starting the first week of training camp, getting a chance to go against one of the best offenses in battle every single day has helped us tremendously. The mindset coming from the coaches, top down to the players and to the leadership, has been drastically changed. It's just fun, man.
"I just can't wait to see the process and the results from all the hard work, but we're not done yet."
And I think Cowboys Nation is eager to see how Parker's vision comes to life with real NFL bullets flying at MetLife.
We've seen practices and cut-ups, but when Christian releases the handbrake and delves into his defensive bag, what are we going to see?
A system that plays and confuses the quarterback's eyes pre- and post-snap, we think that there could be a lot of positives that stem from it.
Of course, there will be ups and downs as players learn Parker's system in real time, but I'd expect things to settle down after the first month or so, and then we can really see what Christian is cooking.
But for now, we've got to trust Quinnen's word, and he's about as excited as anyone to see Parker's vision come to life in 2026.
