Pickens and Lamb might have just gotten a little extra motivation ahead of Week 1.

The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for their Week 1 matchup against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, and Brian Schottenheimer's offense might have just gotten a little irked.

We know that despite the defensive changes this offseason to just about everything, the Cowboys will go as far as their high-powered offense will take them.

With George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb to be the chief destroyers last season, the pair are again expected to be a serious problem for the league.

And the Giants are the first team to try and curtail them.

Some think that Pickens and Lamb will feast as they did in Week 2 of last season (George 5 rec, 68 yards, 1 TD, CeeDee 9 rec, 112 yards).

However, for Giants corner Greg Newsome II, he acknowledged how good the pair are, but might have just stoked the fire ahead of Sunday night's game.

Dallas, he said, "can do a lot of great things. ... Definitely great players, but I like our chances.”

OK, so that's not exactly "inflammatory.'' But the dynamic duo could nevertheless use the remarks as Sunday night fuel.

For sure, the Giants are making it sound like they're in a confident mood in that secondary as it regards dealing with both Lamb and Pickens.

Having had a flawless offseason, Pickens is looming large yet again, and such has been how he's performed; Lamb is almost the forgotten man. Yes, an All-Pro receiver isn't getting much attention -relatively speaking.

The good thing is the Cowboys (2.5-point favorites) have plenty of weapons to throw at the Giants' defense, with Javonte Williams, Malik Davis, Jake Ferguson, Ryan Flournoy, and even KaVontae Turpin before we get to George and CeeDee.

There's no denying that a lot of Dallas' production will come through the star receivers, but Newsome might have just put a target on his defense's back.

We know what sort of damage both Lamb and Pickens can do, but New York thinks they can be handled.

Time - and the Lamb/Pickens response - will tell if that's the case.
