The Philadelphia Eagles have placed offensve lineman Landon Dickerson on injured reserve in a brutal move.
The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a big Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders at home.
But while the vibes were good around the win, Philadelphia lost one of its key offensive contributors. The Eagles are now placing star left guard Landon Dickerson on injured reserve following the game, which will sideline him for at least four weeks.
Dickerson played against the Commanders, but he struggled throughout the game. The veteran opened up about his performance following the win, saying that he was a liability to the Eagles.
The guard also mentioned that he got rolled up on in practice a few weeks ago, leading to the issue.
“I was a complete liability yesterday. Again, that was my fault. I know I said earlier in camp, I shouldn’t be out there until I feel healthy. A few weeks ago, got rolled up on in practice. I thought as weeks went by it would get better. It didn’t and we kind of went out there and finally got some imaging on it today, figured out what was wrong with it," Dickerson said.
Without Dickerson, the Eagles are likely to turn to Drew Kendall or could even Willie Lampkin to replace him. But there is no easy way to replace the three-time Pro Bowl star.
Dickerson will now get healthy for the remainder of the year, believing that this is the best way for him to do that. Philadelphia and Dickerson have their eyes on winning a Super Bowl, and the team is going to need him healthy to make that happen.
Against Washington, Dickerson couldn't do much of anything, so this move makes a lot of sense. The Eagles would rather lose him for a few games at this point in the year, rather then have him try to play though the injury, and then be forced to miss time later in the season.
While losing Dickerson is tough, the Eagles should be able to withstand the loss of the star guard. Although, the schedule for the Eagles isn't the easiest over the next four games, with Philadelphia taking on the Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
All Philadelphia can do now is hope that Dickerson can heal up fully, getting ready for the stretch run of the year. And once he is healthy enough to get back on the field, the Eagles will welcome him back with open arms.
