Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Jalen Hurts was complimentary of Jalen Hurts after the Week 1 win.
Entering the NFL season, there were real questions about how the Philadelphia Eagles offense would run without star wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Brown was traded to the New England Patriots over the offseason, leaving a big hole in the Eagles' wide receiving corps. Due to the trade, questions about quarterback Jalen Hurts came up, with many wondering how he would fare without the star.
Hurts showed real inconsistency last season, with Brown, so it was fair to wonder how he would perform. But in Week 1 of the new NFL season, Hurts was able to silence any doubters.
The veteran quarterback led the Eagles to a massive win over the rival Washington Commanders at home. Hurts threw for 203 yards with three touchdowns, and he was instrumental to the victory.
After the game, multiple members of the Eagles were complimentary of their quarrback, who had dealt with doubt all offseason. Offensive tackle Jordan Mailata was one of them, giving praise to the leader of the Eagles.
“It’s the beauty of having Jalen Hurts as your QB,” Mailata said. “He can make plays when plays are there.”
Two of Hurts' three touchdown passes went to tight end Dallas Goedert, who also came up huge for Philadelphia in this game. Goedert has been a nice security blanket for Hurts over the years, and without Brown on the roster, he could see even more work this season.
Hurts has won a Super Bowl for this franchise, taking home the MVP award in the process. The veteran has proven himself, and when Philadelphia needed him to come through, Hurts did exactly that.
While it was just one game, this has to build some confidence for Hurts after a long offseason. The signal-caller should be able to build off the success that he saw against the Commanders, helping to put together a strong 2026 season.
“Jalen has worked extremely hard at that portion of his game,” head coach Nick Sirianni said. “He really can throw. He just puts the ball on the money in those situations, which helps you be explosive.”
The Eagles will be traveling to take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 2, giving Hurts another chance to perform at a high level. Philadelphia will be trying to start the year 2-0 as they attempt to win the NFC East once again.
