The Eagles head coach has been placed on the hot seat again.
The Philadelphia Eagles dropped another game this weekend, falling to the rival Washington Commanders on primetime.
The Eagles lost 27-10 against the Commanders on Sunday Night Football, with the team struggling to find any form of consistency on the field. Philadelphia now owns a record of 2-6 on the season, with the team having lost six straight games.
Much of this has to do with the team dealing with all sorts of injuries, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Philadelphia has lost star quarterback Jalen Hurts for the remainder of the season due to a blood clot issue, and his future with the franchise remains in question.
But the Eagles have also seen star wide receiver DeVonta Smith miss multiple games due to injury as well. Star running back Saquon Barkley has also been limited, with him missing games or being limited when he does play.
This has impacted the team as a whole, putting a limit on what this team can do on the field each week. Tanner McKee is under center for Philadelphia now, and he has struggled to find his footing in the offense.
With the losing streak, there have been calls for the Eagles to fire head coach Nick Sirianni, but so far, Philadelphia hasn't budged. Sirianni has been at the center of hot-seat rumors for a while now, even with the veteran coach leading the organization to a Super Bowl title a few years ago.
Amid all the outside noise, it seems that Sirianni has the backing of the players in the locker room. Barkley defended his head coach after the loss to the Commanders, crediting Sirianni for his leadership during the struggles.
"I've been in situations like this before," Barkley said. "We're grinding. We're trying to best to do our little things. We're getting coached great. I can't sit here and lie. Our coaches are doing a really good job, I feel like. Even if we're falling apart, you know, Nick is doing a really good job of just stepping up, calling us out. We're having great weeks of practices. It's just not translating to the game."
Sirianni is likely doing the best that he can with the roster that he has to work with each week going forward. The Eagles are missing multiple key players across the roster, and there aren't many teams who could overcome the absences.
But the Eagles do need to get a win to stop the bleeding, silencing all the noise coming around the team. Sirianni will try to get his guys ready to go, putting them in positions to find success for the rest of the way.
Next up for Philadelphia is a matchup with the rival New York Giants, offering them a chance to stop the losing streak at home. New York is in first place in the NFC East, and a win could go a long way for this Eagles team.
