The Jaguars dominated last year's AFC champions on Sunday. How high did Jacksonville rise after its beatdown of the Patriots?

The Jacksonville Jaguars showed the rest of the NFL what they are made of on Sunday with their absolute dismantling of the New England Patriots.

Not only did the Jaguars respond almost flawlessly after their nine-game regular-season winning streak came to an end in a tough road loss to the Denver Broncos the week prior, but they did so against another conference powerhouse.

Bouncing back after a disappointing loss is a huge step for a team trying to go from good to great. It is a sign that its coach knows exactly how to get his team mentally prepared and that the players have completely bought into their coach's message.

If this is the Jaguars' team going forward, the rest of the AFC better step up its game.

A quarterback playing at an MVP level? Check.

A head coach who has won 15 of his first 20 games? Check.

A swarming defense that stops the run and consistently forces turnover? Check.

A potential superstar cornerback who hasn't played a full workload yet? Check.

A young running back who has looked great in three games as a starter?

You get the point.

After last season's 13-4 breakout, a lot of people were questioning whether the Jaguars were a one-year wonder.

As coach Liam Coen told his team earlier this offseason, it was going to take more than one good season to earn the respect of others around the NFL.

After Sunday's pummeling of the Patriots, it would be a huge mistake for anyone not to respect this team.

ESPN, which has been one of Jacksonville's biggest doubters for months, is finally starting to show the Jaguars some respect.

Some. In its Week 4 NFL power rankings, ESPN has moved the Jaguars up to 10th.

For a team with a pair of dominant wins, including one over one of last year's Super Bowl teams, and who had a double-digit lead in the second half on the road against last year's AFC number one seed before falling, only being 10th in the power rankings still seems low.

But at least it's a start.

Jaguars Should Be A Few Spots Higher

Of the nine teams ranked above Jacksonville, the Jaguars should be ranked higher than a few of them.

The Los Angeles Rams, ranked seventh, are 1-2 and haven't looked like the juggernaut they were supposed to be.

The Philadelphia Eagles, eighth, just lost by 20 to a Chicago Bears team playing its third-string quarterback. The week before, the Eagles needed a touchdown with nine seconds left to beat the 0-3 Tennessee Titans, who are 31st in ESPN's rankings. In Week 1, Philly had to stop a game-tying two-point conversion attempt by the 1-2 Washington Commanders, ranked 26th.

That deserves a higher spot than Jacksonville? Give me a break.

The Baltimore Ravens, fifth, and Seattle Seahawks, fourth, both have a loss much worse than Jacksonville's.

Final Thoughts

The Jaguars are still flying under the radar, at least to ESPN, and I'm sure Coach Coen is loving it.

Jacksonville has looked like one of the NFL's elite thus far this season. The more the Jaguars continue to be overlooked, the better their chances of reaching the franchise's first Super Bowl.
