Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence are finalists for three of the NFL's most prized honors.
Lawrence, who this year joined the top echelons of quarterbacks in the league, has been named a finalist for both Most Valuable Player and Comeback Player of the Year, the NFL and Associated Press announced Thursday.
Coen, in his first year at the helm in Jacksonville, is among the finalists for 2025 AP Coach of the Year.
Winners will be announced during Super Bowl week, on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 9 p.m. ET.
Coen, 40, took over a team that had gone 4-13 in 2024 and led the Jaguars to a 13-4 record -- finishing on an eight-game winning streak -- an AFC South title and the franchise’s first postseason berth since 2022. The 40-year-old former offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first rookie head coach in NFL history to win 12-plus games after taking over a team with four or fewer victories the previous season. Coen and coordinators Anthony Campanile on defense and Grant Udinski on offense led the Jags to more than triple the team's win total in one season.
Throughout the regular season, Jacksonville collected tough wins over the Denver Broncos, the 49ers, Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Carolina Panthers -- all eventual playoff teams.
Jacksonville’s offense under Coen scored 25-plus points in 13 games this season, tying the Bills for the league-high, accomplishing that feat in arguably the toughest stretch of the season, from Weeks 9-16.
Under Coen and Campanile, the Jaguars ranked second in the NFL in takeaways with 31 and in interceptions with 22, behind the Chicago Bears' 33 takeaways and 23 picks. The defense's +13 turnover margin placed the Jags third in the NFL. Jacksonville became the only team in NFL history to have 30-plus takeaways one year after having fewer than 10 the previous season. (Under former coach Doug Pederson, the Jags totaled eight in 2024.)
With two first-year coordinators, the team ranked as the NFL's sixth-best scoring offense (27.9 points per game) and the league's top run defense (85.6 yards per game).
Under Coen, the Jaguars set several franchise records, including points scored (474), touchdowns scored (55), points per game (27.9) and first downs (356).
Among NFL quarterbacks this season, Lawrence finished third in the NFL in total TDs with 38 (behind Matthew Stafford with 46 and Josh Allen, who had 39). He also finished fifth in passing TDs (30), sixth in passing yards (4,007), and tied with New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart for second in rushing touchdowns with nine. (Allen ranked first with 14.)
In 2024, the Jags starter missed seven games after undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason. But this year, Lawrence’s 38 total touchdowns set a single-season franchise record. The former No. 1 pick out of Clemson in 2021 helped guide the Jaguars to 13 wins, five of which included game-winning drives (fourth-most in the NFL). In Weeks 13-16, he had four consecutive games with a passer rating of 100.0-plus, tied for the second-longest streak in the NFL this season.
In the Jaguars’ 48-20 Week 15 win over the Jets, Lawrence became the only player in NFL history with at least five passing TDs, 300 passing yards, one rushing TD, and 50 rushing yards in a single game. He received player of the week honors for his performance.
In a 34-20 victory the following week at Denver, he became the third player in NFL history to have at least 275 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in consecutive games. Over that two-game span, the 26-year-old accounted for 10 total TDs and zero turnovers, becoming the fourth player in NFL history to do so, joining QBs Josh Allen (2024), Drew Brees (2019) and Patrick Mahomes (2018).
The late-season surge earned him AFC Player of the Month honors for December.
To date, no one from the Jaguars has netted Coach of the Year, Most Valuable Player, or Comeback Player of the Year awards.
