The New York Jets accomplished something in Week 1 of 2026 that they didn't do once last season.
The New York Jets have started the NFL season 1-0, following a dominant win on the road against the Tennessee Titans.
New York was able to do almost whatever they wanted against the Titans in the game, putting together a well-rounded win. The Jets came into the season with a lot of questions around the roster, but at least for one game, New York silenced some doubters.
Not only was getting a win huge for New York, but the performance from the defense was special. The Jets' defense held the Titans down all game long until a long touchdown came in garbage time.
What made this outing so impressive is the fact that New York's defense didn't hold any opponent to 10 points or fewer in 2025. Even against a lower-tier team like the Titans, this performance was special from the Jets.
Coming into the year, the Jets defense was expected to be much better. But nobody could have expected this type of outing, especially in Week 1.
After the game, linebacker Demario Davis reflected on the performance. Davis said he believes this is the type of football that should be expected from New York moving forward.
“It’s really about what do people see when they turn the tape on?” Davis said. “Is there tenacious effort to the ball? Is there people attacking the football? Are we getting after the quarterback? Those are the things that we care about. That’s our brand of football, man. I think there’ll be a lot of plays that we’re pleased with tomorrow.”
New York's defense will be tested more as the year goes on, facing tougher offensive teams. But the Jets can take what worked against the Titans, using this to build into an even stronger unit themselves.
The Jets will have a tough challenge in Week 2 when they host the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay has plenty of offensive weapons for quarterback Jordan Love to use, but this will be a good test for New York.
If this team can put together another strong defensive performance against the Packers, it could reveal that a special year may be incoming. New York hasn't made the playoffs since the 2010 season, but the belief in the locker room seems to be strong this year.
All in all, the win in Week 1 was electric for New York, giving this franchise some hope for the future.
