New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was on the receiving end of a tough ranking this week.

After grabbing a win in Week 1 of the NFL season, it has been all downhill for the New York Jets.

New York hasn't been able to put together a complete, well-rounded effort since the first game, and it has seen the team be a little frustrated. The Jets have been more competitive so far this season, even with the losses.

Luckily for the Jets, there is still time to turn things around, but there needs to be a sense of urgency. This is especially true for veteran quarterback Geno Smith, who has put together inconsistent performance from week-to-week.

Smith has allowed this New York offense to look much better this season, but he still isn't executing in the manner that he would like. Against the Chicago Bears last week, Smith struggled to find any rhythm, throwing for just 119 yards and one touchdown.

Due to his lackluster performance, Smith did fall down a quarterback ranking from NFL.com heading into Week 5. NFL.com analyst Nick Shook ranked all the quarterbacks around the league on their outings, with Smith coming in at No. 24, dropping 13 spots.

To Smith's credit, he still hasn't thrown an interception, which was a major concern entering the season. Last year with the Las Vegas Raiders, Smith was a turnover machine, and many people were worried about how he would fare with New York.

But through the first four weeks of the season, Smith has taken care of the ball, showing improvement from a year ago. Overall, the veteran has thrown for 902 yards with five touchdowns on the season.

If the Jets are going to turn the year around, Smith will need to keep the interception-less streak alive, making sure to keep command of the offense. Smith is one of the leaders on this team, and he helps to set the tone during games.

New York will be facing off against the Cleveland Browns this week, giving themselves a chance to take down an upstart team. Cleveland has gotten off to a hot start to the year, opening the season 3-1.

The Jets have the tools to win a game like this, but the team will need to execute in all facets of the game to come out on top. If New York's defense can contain the Browns offense, while allowing Smith time to work, it could be a good day for the Jets.

Kickoff between the Jets and Browns is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET this weekend.
