Jets Have Accomplished Something Not Seen in NFL Since 1999

The New York Jets have a real challenge ahead of them this week, with the team heading on the road to face the New England Patriots.

New York holds a record of 2-3 entering into the game, coming off a big win over the Cleveland Browns a week ago. Despite the under .500 record, the Jets have been much more competitive this season, being in each game this year.

New England will enter this game with a record of 3-2, having won two straight games in impressive fashion. After a slow start to the year, the Patriots are finally looking like the team that reached the Super Bowl last season.

But the Jets are coming into the game with a lot of confidence, looking to build on the win from last week. New York has talent on the roster, and they want to get back to a .500 record against their rivals.

Under head coach Aaron Glenn, the Jets seem to be building something nice, but it will take some time for it to fully come together. If the team can get a win over New England this week, it could help build real momentum for the remainder of the season.

Part of why New York has been competitive this season has been the play from the defense, and it's given this group life. The Jets actually have accomplished something for the first time since 1999 around the league.

New York is the first team since the 1999 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to hold three of their first five opponents to fewer than 200 yards of offense. The Jets' defense has been getting after opposing teams, showing the type of damage they can do on the field.

Against the Browns a week ago, the Jets recorded eight sacks on quarterback Deshaun Watson, making life tough for him all game. New York will be trying to do the same against Patriots signal-caller Drake Maye, with the defense looking to make another statement this week.

The Jets understand that the offense will need to pick things up as well, making this team a well-rounded unit. But if the defense can shut down the explosive New England attack, it would allow New York's offense to do just enough to come away with the big victory.

Kickoff between the Jets and Patriots is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET this weekend.
