Here's why New York Jets' star running back Breece Hall could dominate during the 2026 NFL season after signing a massive contract extension this offseason.

The New York Jets, after a disappointing run during the 2025-26 NFL season, will now look to completely revamp the organization heading into the upcoming year.

Throughout the course of the offseason, general manager Darren Mougey made multiple additions to both side of the football, including the signing of EDGE Joseph Ossai and selecting Texas Tech’s David Bailey with the No. 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. In addition to his efforts on defense, Mougey also reloaded the offense for next season by trading for veteran quarterback Geno Smith and selecting two key playmakers in Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq and Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.

However, the latest move by the front office during this offseason was not a free agent, but rather an extension for one of the franchise’s top weapons on offense.

Last week, the team announced that they have signed star running back Breece Hall to a three-year, $45.75 millon contract extension, making him the fifth-highest paid player at his position in the NFL. And while many believed that Hall could be dealt at last year’s trade deadline, the extension of the 24-year-old could be a perfect move for newly-hired offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

Why Hall Fits Perfectly With Reich, Jets

Hall, after being selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has put together an impressive resume throughout his first four seasons with the organization. In his 56 games played, the former Iowa State standout has recorded 3,398 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, with his 2025 campaign being the first time in his career he’s reached the 1,000 rushing-yard mark in a single season.

Hall has also proven to be a terrific weapon in the passing game, as he’s tallied 1,624 receiving yards and nine touchdowns through the air.

Now, with Hall finally receiving some stability at the offensive coordinator position under Reich, there is a good chance that the versatile back could be due for his best season in New York.

In Reich’s first head coaching job in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, the well-respected coach was blessed with one of the best running backs in the league, Jonathan Taylor. While the former 2020 second-round pick did not receive a heavy workload in his rookie season, Reich would eventually hand the reins to Taylor in 2021, as he finished the year with 1,811 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, while also recording 360 receiving yards on 40 receptions.

Luckily for Reich, he now has a lead running back who is capable of doing everything on offense, which could help elevate the offense in 2026. As for Hall, the highly-touted rusher should see a massive increase in his usage moving forward if he manages to stay healthy throughout the course of the season.
