Are the Philadelphia Eagles being fully truthful when it comes to their plans with receiver A.J. Brown?

One of the bigger offseason storylines has become what the Philadelphia Eagles plan to do with wide receiver A.J. Brown, and whether the star is in their future plans. Publicly, the Eagles haven’t changed their stance despite adding several veteran star pass catchers this offseason, most recently, Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers via a trade. He’s the third receiver they’ve acquired after signing Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore to one-year deals in free agency. Philadelphia’s room now currently includes Brown, DeVonta Smith, Brown, Wicks, and Moore. It begs the question of whether the intent behind the scenes matches public comments.

The thing that may be stopping any movement right now is his cap hit, as a pre-June 1 trade would incur a $40 million-plus hit for 2026. A post-June 1 trade would knock that cost down to less than $20 million. Brown has no guaranteed money left after 2026, playing out the end of the extension signed in 2024 for a three-year, $96 million deal. He was productive enough last season, catching 78 passes for 1,003 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. However, there have been a flurry of reports about the breakdown of the close relationship between Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts, as the duo were notably not on the same page in 2025.

Here is the full story from Eagles Roundtable writer Jon Conahan imploring whether Howie Roseman is being truthful about the team’s plans for Brown.

The three-time Pro Bowler has been with Philadelphia since 2022. It’s not clear how much longer that tenure will continue, especially if the team elects to draft a receiver in the next few weeks to further crowd the room.
