The New York Giants are facing a major trap game this Sunday.
The New York Giants will host the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, and even though the Giants (who are 3-1-1) are somehow underdogs (against a Saints team that is 1-4), most seem to be taking New York to win this game at home.
But that doesn't mean it will be easy.
The Giants are undefeated at home this season, but all three of those wins were tightly-contested contests. In fact, their most convincing victory at MetLife Stadium came in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.
New York's wins over the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals were much closer, with the Giants sealing both victories with game-ending interceptions.
New Orleans doesn't look any better than the Titans or the Cardinals, but there is reason to believe the Saints could present a tough matchup.
Tyler Shough is a very mobile quarterback who has shown considerable promise, Chris Olave is a lethal No. 1 receiver and the backfield of Travis Etienne Jr. and Alvin Kamara is nothing to sneeze at.
What's more, New York will head on the road to face the Houston Texans in Week 7, so it might be easy for the Giants to look past this game.
That's why being viewed as underdogs by the oddsmakers should absolutely be of significant help to Big Blue this weekend, as it should keep them on their toes.
But based on how much energy was needed to beat a couple of lowly teams in Tennessee and Arizona in Weeks 3 and 4, there is reason to believe that the Giants could be in for another nail-biter on Sunday.
Now, the good news is that Jameis Winston had a bit of a breakout game on the road last week against the Washington Commanders, throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns. The Saints have also allowed an opposing passer rating of 106.7 thus far in 2026, which ranks toward the bottom of the NFL.
Winston could be in for a big day, and New Orleans has also been gashed for 148.8 rushing yards per game through five games. That could lead to a breakthrough performance from struggling running back Cam Skattebo.
But the Giants themselves are still a bit of a mystery. Are they actually a good team? Or are they just benefiting from a weak early schedule? The one time they faced a supposed contender, they were hammered by the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.
The jury is still out on these Giants, and while the Saints look like an easy win, New York has to remain vigilant. While the win-loss records may indicate otherwise, we honestly don't know if the Giants are that much better than New Orleans at this point.
