With the New York Giants suffering a brutal loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in week three, the fanbase is now beginning to make their voices heard following the team's 0-3 start to the 2025 NFL season.
During the contest, the crowd at MetLife Stadium made it clear that they wanted New York to bring in rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, chanting "We Want Dart" as the offense failed to get going on Sunday. And when Dart entered the game in the third quarter, fans were unhappy to see the 22-year-old stay in for one play.
When asked about the chants, starting quarterback Russell Wilson stated that he has to have "thick skin."
"There's highs and lows, and there's always tough moments," Wilson said. "You've got to have thick skin, you've got to be able to know who you are and the player that you are..."
After having an incredible performance in the team's week two battle against the Dallas Cowboys, Wilson was unable to replicate the play on Sunday night against the Chiefs. The longtime veteran completed just 18 of his 32 passing attempts for 160 yards and two interceptions. And when Dart came in for one play in the third quarter, fans were upset to see the 2025 first-round pick replaced by Wilson on the following play.
Wilson was also not the only player asked about the fanbase's plead for Dart, as offensive tackle Andrew Thomas told reporters after the game that he trusts the coaching staff and the players.
"Just ignore it," Thomas stated. "There's going to be controversy, I trust the coaching staff and the players. Whoever is out there we want to support."
Likewise, Dart was asked a similar question by reporters on Sunday night, but insisted that he did not pay attention to the outcry of support.
"I really didn't pay attention to it," Dart claimed when asked about the chants. "I just tried to get the call in to the huddle fast..."
Dart would then follow up by stated that he was "just trying to focus on the play" when asked about the mood swing from the fans when he entered and exited the contest.
However, the most powerful message came from head coach Brian Daboll, who claimed that he would "be booing too" if he was a fan.
"Jaxson is progressing well. We'll continue to work with him," Daboll said. "I got a lot of confidence in him and his development he's has, and that's what we'll continue to do. Look, I'd be booing too, to be honest with you in terms of not being good enough, not scoring, not finishing. I understand that. That's the nature of it."
While it's clear the fanbase is ready for Dart to take over the offense, Daboll has not made any announcement regarding who will be the starter for the team's week four contest against the Los Angeles Chargers. The matchup will be another true test for the Giants, as the Chargers are undefeated after three weeks.
