New York Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers provided more insight into his playing status for the team's opening game against the Dallas Cowboys.
One of the biggest questions around the New York Giants heading into their season- opening game with the Dallas Cowboys is whether star wide receiver Malik Nabers will be playing.
Nabers suffered a torn ACL and meniscus last season, and there was concern that he wouldn't be ready until midway through the 2026 year. But Nabers has worked hard at his recovery, and he could be on track to play in Week 1.
The star wideout provided the latest update on the situation when speaking ti reporters on Thursday.
"I grinded my a** off, excuse my language, but you know, I grinded, prayed hard, putting consistent amount of work. I did everything that I can to be in this position right now and be able to make a decision to play or to not play because, at the end of the day, it's my career and it's my body, so if a pitch count is in the conversation, then I will lead that conversation; on that decision would be on me. At the end of the day, I can't put my career at risk. I gotta take that into accountability," Nabers said.
Nabers wouldn't go as far as to say if he was playing in the game, but there has been positive tracking this week. New York will release more information on Nabers' availability later this week as the game draws closer.
But if Nabers is able to go, it could provide the Giants with a massive boost. Before his injury, Nabers was one of the more explosive players in the NFL.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh talked about Nabers earlier this week, hinting that he could try to give it a go.
"I think he's ready to go, man," Harbaugh said. "We'll see though. I mean, it's still four days, five days, four days until we play. So, if he's ready to go and he feels like he's ready to go, then he'll play. If he's not and he's not ready, then he won't play. That's how it works."
In his rookie season, Nabers caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. Nabers was on his way to another strong year before he got hurt last season, catching 118 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns over four games.
Giving quarterback Jaxson Dart a legitimate weapon like this could unlock a ton for this offense, especially going against a high-powered attack like the Cowboys. Nabers may try to warm up on Sunday night, seeing how his body feels before committing to playing.
But for now, the Giants will continue to monitor his status, hoping that the star is able to get back on the field against Dallas.
