As the New York Giants continue to navigate their way throughout the offseason, the struggling franchise has made multiple moves to prepare for the 2026 NFL season.
General manager Joe Schoen kicked off the new year with a slam-dunk head coaching hire in former Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh. After spending 18 seasons with the organization, Harbaugh will receive a fresh start with the Giants, giving the team an experienced coach at the helm for next season.
While the highly acclaimed coach was unable to bring his former offensive coordinator to New York in Todd Monken, John Harbaugh and the front office ultimately decided on Matt Nagy to take control of the offense.
And despite his rough track record as a head coach, Nagy may be a perfect fit for a team that has plenty of young playmakers, including quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Mark Konezny-Imagn ImagesOne of the main reasons why Nagy has been able to stay within the NFL for an extended period of time is due to his strong coaching resume.
After spending multiple seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, the offensive-minded coach would eventually receive his first break in 2013 with the Kansas City Chiefs as the team’s quarterbacks coach. It would not take long for Nagy to land his first promotion, as he would quickly become the team’s offense coordinator in 2017.
Nagy’s impressive rise landed him his first head coaching gig with the Chicago Bears, but he would soon find his way back to the offensive coordinator role with the Chiefs in 2023. In his first year back in Kansas City, the longtime coordinator helped lead the franchise to a Super Bowl victory over the Eagles, while quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns during the regular season.
With Nagy’s experience coaching one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, it’s clear that he could easily aid the development of Dart.
Obviously, Mahomes is in a league of his own when it comes to comparing the top quarterbacks in the NFL. However, Mahomes and Dart share similar traits when it comes to the position: both are known for having outstanding arms while also having the ability to play off script.
Dart’s ability to create plays out of thin air was a huge component of his game as a rookie, but in order for him to take the next step in his career, he must refine this trait to limit the turnovers. Luckily, Nagy’s experience could help control Dart and provide him with a system that is tailored to his unique skillset.
