Is Derrick Henry a Viable Trade Candidate for the Packers?

As Green Bay’s ground game sputters, a legendary powerhouse emerges as a potential solution.

In a world where the Indianapolis Colts may be putting star running back Jonathan Taylor on the trade block, there are a few other RBs to take note of.

The Green Bay Packers are actively monitoring the situation around Josh Jacobs, but it's not like he's been that great since he came back anyway.

Sure, Jacobs is fresh off a two-touchdown game, but it's one that saw him average just 1.9 yards per attempt.

Rushing for 39 yards on 21 attempts simply isn't going to cut it, so that's where another question comes in: Could any running back overcome this offensive line?

It feels like a Saquon Barkley type player certainly could, but what about Derrick Henry?

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, Henry's name is one to monitor, especially if the Baltimore Ravens lose in Week 9.

That said, the Ravens just traded for quarterback Jacoby Brissett, so that's showing they aren't ready to be sellers quite yet.

Regardless, there's a case to be made that Henry would be a far cheaper option than Barkley or Taylor; it's just a matter of whether he'd be worth it for GB.

Do the Packers want a 32-year-old running back?

Taylor is 27 years old, Barkley is 29, so it's clear that Henry is the odd man out.

This is a guy who ran circles around this Packers defense last season, so he clearly proved he's got a lot left in the tank.

Is that Ravens offensive line in the same conversation as Green Bay's? Probably not, but it's common knowledge that Jordan Love has done everything to carry the Packers to a 5-3 record, though the defense deserves a bunch of credit as well.

When it comes to Henry, even at 32 years old, he still leads the league with his 158 carries. He's turned that into 632 yards, which is good for seventh in the league, and he's tied for the third most touchdowns at eight.

Henry's 4.0 yards per attempt would be gladly welcomed on a Packers staff that hasn't seen a number even remotely close to that this season.

The No. 35 overall pick from 2016 has rushed for 58 yards or fewer in each of his last three games. He's taken a major step down from a pair of 100+ yard games to open the season, so that's something GB must take into consideration if they're serious about working out a deal.
