The Packers defense will be getting a massive addition to it very soon.
The Green Bay Packers could soon have star pass rusher Micah Parsons back on the field with their defense.
Parsons has now been cleared to fully go in practice, giving him a set timeline for a potential return. This will be the first time that Parsons will practice in almost 11 months, with his window being opened to be activated from the PUP list.
But even though Parsons has been cleared to go, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur did say that the veteran would be limited at first. Parsons will only do individual work today, as he ramps himself back up.
This has been news that the Packers have been waiting on for a long time, with Parsons suffering his ACL injury last season. The veteran star has been working hard to get back on the field, and his return seems imminent now.
Green Bay had been targeting Parsons to return around Thanksgiving, when the team travels to face off against the Los Angeles Rams. But with this news that he has been cleared, it could come sooner if the team feels that he is ready to go.
Having Parsons back on this defense should give the Packers a massive boost, adding to the already strong unit on the field. Before he got hurt last season, Parsons was in the midst of a special year for Green Bay.
In 14 games played, parsons had 41 total tackles, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one pass deflection. Parsons completely changed this defense for the Packers, giving them a dominant player who can rush the quarterback to create havoc.
Having him on the field takes pressure off the secondary as well, with Parsons' ability to disrupt plays in the backfield. It also opens up more lanes for other defenders, with opposing teams choosing to double-team Parsons oftentimes.
The Packers are currently 5-3 on the season, sitting in last place within the NFC North division. But Green Bay getting the star pass rusher back could help jolt them back toward the top of the standings.
Parsons has game-changing ability, and adding him back to the roster this late in the year could be massive for the Packers unit. While the NFC North is a tightly contested division, it's anybody's to win at this point in the season.
Green Bay will now work Parsons back into everything through practice, and his return to the field is likely to take place sooner rather than later.
