A rare injury blow sidelines the Packers’ defensive workhorse for Sunday’s divisional clash.

To say that linebacker Zaire Franklin is a workhorse would be an understatement.

The 30-year-old began his career with the Indianapolis Colts, and at times it seemed like that would be the only team he ever suited up for.

Franklin was the team's No. 235 overall pick back in 2018, but arguably no one other than himself knew what he was truly capable of.

This is a guy who has accumulated 779 career tackles, 41 of which have come in his first six games with the Green Bay Packers.

Franklin may have had a season-low three tackles on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys, but no one can take away the 1.5-sack game he just had against the Chicago Bears.

As of Friday, Oct. 23, head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Franklin will miss Week 7 against the Detroit Lions due to a shin injury.

Packers rule out Franklin ahead of NFC North showdown

"Unfortunately there was a little collision, he got kneed in the shin, so he's going to be out this game," LaFleur said, according to Journal Sentinel's Dominique Yates.

LaFleur said the team is working through it right now, but he doesn't believe it's broken or will need a stint on the IR.

He added, "it happens when you play football, especially with the way our guys have been practicing."

No one wishes injuries on anyone, but that goes to show just how hard this Packers team is practicing on a daily basis.

Remember, this is a week where they aren't even having a full week of practice as they're coming off a primetime game and have a Thursday night showdown against the Carolina Panthers next week.

Green Bay's defense takes another blow

Franklin's appearance on SNF against the Cowboys was his 138th career game played. Officially, this will be only the second game he's missed in his nine-year career.

Durable is one of the many words that could be used to describe the 6-foot, 235-pound linebacker, and it's clear this Packers defense is taking a big hit without him.

Green Bay already lost a pair of defensive stars to season-ending injuries, and they're patiently awaiting the return of Micah Parsons.

New defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon has dialed up some incredible blitzes and schemes in his first six games with the team, so it'll be interesting to see what he draws up against the Lions for the first time this season.
