Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed an unfortunate update on Myles Garrett.

Following the Los Angeles Rams' Week 1 loss, it was revealed that defensive end Myles Garrett was set to undergo surgery to correct a nagging knee issue that he has had for multiple months.

Garrett was placed on IR (injured reserve) and will be out for at least four games. Now, Rams head coach Sean McVay has offered an even more unfortunate update.

Garrett has been dealing with this knee issue since he arrived in Los Angeles via a blockbuster trade back in early June. After the trade, the defender was seldom seen at practice, and he chalked it up to being "old."

It turns out that being "old" meant he was dealing with a rather significant knee injury that appeared to be getting worse. Garrett remained out of training camp practice due to soreness and swelling in his knee.

Despite the injury, the Rams' defensive end was at practice fully from Sunday and on to the team flying out to face the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.

During the game, Garrett did not look like himself. He was subbed out of the game on multiple occasions and looked to be a bit exhausted from playing.

Turns out it was his knee that was bothering him and not allowing him to play at 100 percent. Garrett ended the day with no tackles and no sacks.

Now, McVay has offered an even more unfortunate update on the situation. Per the Rams' head coach, he is "unsure" of how long Garrett will be out following his knee procedure.

"Sean McVay said he isn't sure how long Myles Garrett will be out after knee surgery, partly because he didn't want to put a timeline on it until he has all the information post-surgery. Garrett will miss at least the next four games on Injured Reserve," per Rams reporter Stu Jackson.

McVay is always very careful about putting out information when he does not know all the facts, so it could be that Garrett may be back after missing four games. Then again, this knee procedure could also knock him out for a lot longer.

Losing Garrett for multiple weeks is going to heavily impact the defense and the team's pass rush capabilities. However, the good news is that the Rams are also awaiting the return of Aaron Donald.

Donald did not travel with the team, nor play in Week 1, as he is ramping back up to football shape. He could be ready to go in Week 2, as Los Angeles will take on the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

Even if Donald cannot play in Week 2 and is instead back for Week 3, the Rams will have a very violent pass rusher to work with.

The hope for the Rams regarding Garrett is that he will be back sooner rather than later, but right now there is no guarantee of anything. His return will be dependent on his recovery from knee surgery, which could take some time to heal.
