The Los Angeles Rams are set to sign veteran kicker Brandon McManus, provided he can pass a physical
The Los Angeles Rams have had a whirlwind last few days. After dropping to 2-4 this season, the team was hit with multiple devastating injuries.
One of those injuries was to kicker Blake Grupe, who had just signed with Los Angeles the week prior to the Arizona Cardinals game. Grupe suffered a torn ACL, and now the Rams are looking towards veteran help.
Per reports, the Rams are set to sign veteran Brandon McManus, provided that he passes a physical.
If McManus does pass his physical, he will move forward as the kicker who is expected to provide some stability to a chaotic special teams unit.
McManus more recently played for the Green Bay Packers in the 2025 season. He went 24-for-30 attempts and missed one of his 34 extra-point attempts.
McManus was 3-for-5 on kicks that were 50+ yards, and 3-for-7 on kicks in the 40- to 49-yard range. He was a perfect 8-for-8 on kicks in the 30- to 39-yard range and 10-for-10 on kicks in the 20- to 29-yard range.
What Happened to Blake Grupe?
The Rams adding McManus makes perfect sense given his time playing in the NFL. Despite kicking at an 80 percent accuracy in 2025, he has been in the league for 12 seasons and could provide some strong leadership.
Los Angeles lost Grupe on Sunday when the Cardinals nearly ran a kickoff for a touchdown. The last person to stop that from happening was Grupe, who made the tackle but was violently upended.
Grupe stayed on the turf for multiple moments and had to be tended to by the training staff. He was then seen limping off the field.
Initially, Grupe was doubtful with a knee injury, but the extent of his injury was not known.
It wasn't until Monday that Rams head coach Sean McVay delivered the news that Grupe suffered a torn ACL and would miss the remainder of the 2026 season.
Grupe had also kicked a field goal prior to the injury, and there was hope that he was set to be far more accurate than Harrison Mevis.
Grupe will now spend the next several months recovering from the injury, with the chance that he may come back at the start of the 2027 season.
Grupe is also just one of several players who are lost for multiple weeks.
Defensive tackle Poona Ford suffered a torn triceps and is out for the season. Defensive lineman Kobie Turner is out for up to six weeks with a groin injury, and wide receiver Davante Adams is out for six to 10 weeks with a ruptured hamstring.
