Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta admitted that the team may not address free agent pass rushers.
The Baltimore Ravens had a steep need for pass rush heading into the 2026 offseason, and they addressed that by bringing in Trey Hendrickson and drafting Zion Young. Though those are solid additions, they may not be enough.
There have been some connections made regarding the Ravens bringing back players like Jadeveon Clowney or Kyle Van Noy, but general manager Eric DeCosta seemingly shot down that idea for a major reason: reps.
DeCosta joined 105.7 The Fan to discuss Baltimore's offseason and was asked by host and former Ravens Super Bowl champion Femi Ayanbadejo about the possibility of adding players like Jadeveon Clowney or Joey Bosa to the lineup.
"It just depends, I think. You know, right now we've got Trey, we feel really good about him. We got Tavius, we got Mike Green, and we just drafted Zion, not to mention um Adisa. So, it's hard to give these guys enough reps as it is at times, especially the way we use them, where we rotate these guys and most of them, most of our guys are getting somewhere between 30 and 40 reps," DeCosta said.
DeCosta admitted that the edge position appears to be in good shape, especially after the team added Hendrickson and Young. Also, Mike Green, Tavius Robinson, and Adisa Isaac.
The Ravens general manager points to the lack of reps that the younger players would get if they brought in someone like Clowney or Bosa, which makes sense. The defense cannot truly see what it has without giving the younger players time to develop and propser if they are not out on the field.
DeCosta did state that it's more of a wait-and-see type of situation than it is to not happen at all. Much like is always the case, Baltimore will have to see what it has through training camp and possibly preseason before another player is targeted or added.
"It then becomes though, does that now stunt the development of some of these younger players? And we feel really good about Zion and we feel really good about Mike Green, not to mention Trey. It's going to be hard to get him off the field. So, it becomes a matter of reps," DeCosta said.
Green started to show some flashes of brilliance, and he ended the season with 3.5 sacks. That is not terrible for a rookie and on a defense that was hit with multiple injuries.
Young can also become a huge weapon for the Ravens if his work ethic and physicality translate immediately to the NFL level. He has already been turning heads with his size and power during limited practice at the team's rookie mini camp.
Should DeCosta be looking at anyone, it won't happen until well into training camp or beyond.
"So never say never. I think some of it will depend on our evaluation of these guys over the coming month or so and into the offseason program as we get closer to like the end of June. We signed Clowney years ago in August, I think maybe the first week of training camp right around there or training camp," DeCosta said.
