The Baltimore Ravens have set their captains for the 2026 season, but the structure is quite unique.
The Baltimore Ravens have revealed their captains for the upcoming season, but they have done so with a unique twist.
Though it is not a surprise, quarterback Lamar Jackson, wide receiver Zay Flowers, and running back Derrick Henry are among the players who are on the list.
Additionally, the team has also nominated linebacker Roquan Smith, safety Kyle Hamilton, tight end Mark Andrews, long snapper Nick Moore, and offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley.
The newcomers to the team who have made captain as well are defensive lineman Calais Campbell and defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
Additionally, the Ravens are changing things up in a unique way from how former head coach John Harbaugh handled things.
During Harbaugh's era, the captains rotated per game. Now, under Jesse Minter, five of these names will be season-long captains.
Jackson, Smith, Hamilton, Campbell, and Henry will be the captains that the team can count on during the entirety of the 2026 season. The full leadership team of 10 will also include Hendrickson, Flowers, Andrews, Moore, and Stanley.
Both Campbell and Hendrickson have received glowing reviews from their coaches and teammates, along with general manager Eric DeCosta.
DeCosta spoke about the importance of Campbell's leadership and revealed he attempted to trade for the consummate pro at least three or four times over the years.
It makes perfect sense as to why Campbell has not only been named a captain, but why he is one of the mainstay choices for the Ravens team in 2026. The defensive tackle is now the longest-tenured player on the team, going into his 19th season.
Campbell has also proven to be a difference maker on every team he has been a part of.
Hendrickson is also a seasoned veteran who has showcased his sheer work ethic through OTAs and minicamp, with his fellow teammates and younger players commenting on his dedication to getting his body and mind right to play football.
Flowers has spoken openly about his desire to be seen as a leader on this Baltimore team, and now he gets the chance to be just that. Considering his status as the top playmaker in the building, he has been integral in imparting his wisdom to rookies Elijah Sarratt and Ja'Kobi Lane.
Jackson, Smith, Henry, and Hamilton were the likely shoo-ins for the honor of captain, as they have embodied what it means to "play like a Raven."
It will be interesting to see if the leadership 10 changes at any point during the season, but the team now has their leaders for the 2026 season.
