The Seahawks have kept one of their key offensive pieces in Rashid Shaheed.
The Seattle Seahawks had braced themselves for free agency and the prospect of losing a host of key free agents.
We know the market explodes early, and the Seahawks did lose running back Kenneth Walker, along with Coby Bryant.
But Seattle managed to keep Josh Jobe, which is a nice piece of news.
Now comes more for Seahawks fans.
Star returner/receiver Rashid Shaheed is remaining with the Seahawks after signing a three-year, $51 million deal, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Shaheed was set to hit the bank in a big way after his turn of form in the second half of the season since being traded by the New Orleans Saints.
He now earns a crisp $17 million APY and is rewarded for his stellar performances for Mike Macdonald's team.
With the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks set to be raided in free agency, the fact that the franchise has managed to keep two stars is a good start.
Yes, losing Walker and Bryant wasn't ideal, but we got the feeling early on that the Seahawks weren't willing to pay the price needed to keep Kenneth. As such, he landed in Kansas City.
But $17 million APY for Shaheed is a pretty penny.
However, his value is spot on as his work on special teams and the offense is likely what made the Seahawks comfortable shelling out that much money.
With his incredible speed, Shaheed is a home-run threat on every return.
Plus, as we saw in the Super Bowl, he has home-run potential as a receiver as well, so there are multiple ways Seattle can use him.
With the winds of change blowing ever so slightly through Seattle, the franchise has to be happy with Day 1 of free agency, as the organization has managed to keep two key players for Macdonald.
Granted, that might mean others will now be allowed to walk, but in Jobe and Shaheed, Seattle has retained a key piece on either side of the ball.
Yes, it was a little pricey, but the Seahawks know the value of each player, and it was seen as worth it in the end.
As such, Shaheed remains a Seahawk.
