The Seahawks once again saw costly turnovers come back to bite them in their loss to Denver
The Seattle Seahawks have fallen 17-14 to the Denver Broncos at Mile High as Mike Macdonald's team now sits at 3-3 following a Thursday Night OT outing.
In a game where the Seattle defense, after giving up a second-quarter touchdown, forced eight straight punts (not including a second-quarter kneel-down) in regulation and overtime, yet still lost.
Sam Darnold's interception problem remains a big issue and is becoming a concern for Seattle, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba posted 134 yards on 12 receptions, shining as a bright spot.
Before the game, we highlighted five things Seattle needed to do to secure a much-needed win over the Broncos.
Let's see how they did.
1 - Limit turnovers: Grade F
A Rashid Shaheed fumble as the Seahawks were driving late in the second quarter left points on the field, but the two Darnold interceptions were back-breakers.
One came with 1:25 left in the fourth quarter, and luckily the defense bailed him out to get him the ball back, and he forced overtime.
But then as Seattle got the ball to begin, Darnold threw another interception, to allow Bo Nix and Denver to be in field goal range, and they nailed it to win 17-14.
It's officially panic time for these turnovers.
2 - Get run game rolling: Grade C
In total, Seattle had 26 rushing attempts for 113 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per carry, which isn't too bad.
Velus Jones Jr. had 20 yards on four carries, while Emanuel Wilson had 52 on 14 attempts, as the run game was viable for most on the night.
But it wasn't enough, as they clearly lacked the pace and power of Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet, as Darnold had 51 pass attempts.
3 - Make life uncomfortable for Bo Nix: Grade A
While Nix and Denver started hot, halfway through the second quarter, Seattle tightened it up.
After giving up the touchdown in the second quarter, the defense forced punts on eight straight offensive drives, excluding the kneel-down that ended the half.
In the second half, the defense only allowed 30 yards of offense, and while the defense didn't get a sack or an interception, it clearly had Nix and Co. figured out.
4 - Find support for JSN: Grade B
It was the JSN show again, as he totaled 134 yards, but Shaheed (5 rec, 66 yards) and Cooper Kupp (5 rec, 50 yards) stepped up and made plays when they needed to.
Yes, Smith-Njigba was the star again, but at least he had help this time, with Shaheed and Kupp pushing the offense downfield, and Shaheed catching a 42-yard reception in the second half.
5 - Start fast: Grade C
It wasn't exactly the fastest of starts, but the Seahawks did manage two first downs before punting, thanks to back-to-back sacks.
The defense then forced a three-and-out, with the Seahawks offense then managing a field goal.
But after that, the Seahawks went punt, fumble, punt, while the defense allowed back-to-back touchdown drives to be down 14-3 at halftime.
It was a tough game for the offense, but at least they offered some resistance in the first half on the road.
