The Seahawks added the All-Pro to their ranks this week, seriously upgrading their offensive line in the process.
The Seattle Seahawks, fresh off a superb 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, then went about bolstering their offense.
And they did it in a big way.
The Seahawks traded for Indianapolis Colts six-time All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson as the Colts are in fire-sale mode.
Nelson now comes to the Seahawks and will slot in right alongside Charles Cross and Jalen Sundell to seriously fortify the Seattle interior.
A player of Nelson's caliber isn't usually available mid-season, but he was this time, and the Seahawks pounced and added one of the best guards in football to their roster.
And for former Colts player and head coach, Jeff Saturday, he was a guest on Seattle Sports' Brock and Salk, and revealed that Nelson is the ideal fit, physically, for what head coach Mike Macdonald wants his team to be.
“The thing I loved most about him as a head coach is he would encourage or I’m assuming tell his coordinators, hey, even if we’re not efficient, we’re going to stay true to a balanced offense,” Saturday said via Seattle Sports. “And when you’re willing to do that, even when it’s not going great, you start to build this level of physicality. It helps your defense and then it helps explosive plays. And then when your run game gets going… all these things fall into place.
“So, the physicality by which (Nelson) plays fit so well in the personality and style of the Seahawks. I don’t think it could have been a better fit.”
The main thing now is for Nelson to get acclimated, learn Brian Fleury's system, and the different verbiage that comes with swapping teams.
But for the veteran and six-time All-Pro, we imagine that it won't take too long for him to get up to speed.
Spending as much time as he can in the classroom, with his teammates, and mastering this offseason is the No. 1 priority for Nelson right now, with the Seahawks' offensive line now looking like a monster with Quenton on the inside.
The move tells us that the Seahawks clearly saw a lot of value in bringing in Nelson, with only a 2027 3rd-round pick and a 2028 5th-round pick going back to the Colts.
It is a move that now gives the Seahawks a definite strength, along with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and the "Dark Side" defense.
The hunt for back-to-back is definitely alive.
