Fleury is finding his feet in his first coordinator role in the NFL, as he takes charge of an offense that won the Super Bowl last season.
It has been a whirlwind offseason for new Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Fleury.
Coming from the San Francisco 49ers, he takes over an offense that played a role in winning the Super Bowl under Klint Kubiak, and now he has to build on it.
With Fleury coming from the 49ers, where he served as a positional coach for the past couple of seasons, going from that to a coordinator is a big jump.
But everything we have heard from head coach Mike Macdonald, and even the players like Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, has all been positive.
Fleury is hitting the ground running.
But as the Seahawks are now into a groove at training camp, having been going through their paces for well over a week, how has Fleury himself seen this offseason?
"It's been great," Fleury said. "Obviously there's a good foundation here in place, a lot of good players. So, it's an exciting situation to walk into. It's been awesome."
One of the knocks on Fleury being hired was that he hasn't been a coordinator before, but instead a position coach.
He was San Francisco's tight end coach from 2022 through to 2024, and last season run game coordinator was added to his responsibilities.
So he was able to focus on his own group of players. Well, in Seattle, he can't; he's got to oversee the entire offense.
But what changes has he seen going from a position coach to now the guy who controls it all?
"Obviously you're overseeing the entire group," he added. "I'm used to installing into the entire group, but now just having to make sure that I'm paying attention to every aspect of every single drill. There are times as a position coach, you can kind of hunker down in your bunker and just focus on your own guys, and now I don't have that luxury anymore."
So it has been a rather interesting offseason for Fleury, as he takes over an offense that reached the Super Bowl, not to mention facing Macdonald's defense every day.
But iron sharpens iron, and while most of the offense that Kubiak had is sticking around, there will be a couple of Fleury's own wrinkles thrown in as well to help evolve the unit.
Yes, it is only early, but the signs are positive for the offense, as Fleury looks to build on what the Seahawks managed last season and potentially make the unit even better.
