Charbonnet has been practicing for a couple of weeks and was trending to play on Sunday night, but will he?

Seattle Seahawks fans were looking forward to the potential return of running back Zach Charbonnet on Sunday night at Lumen Field against the Kansas City Chiefs.

After suffering an ACL injury in the playoffs last season, Charbonnet has been working feverishly to return as soon as possible.

In fact, he has been hitting the practice field for the last two weeks in hopes of returning to the game sooner rather than later.

All indications were that Charbonnet was on schedule to play against the Chiefs, albeit with a limited snap count.

But if fans were getting excited about Zach's return, head coach Mike Macdonald just poured cold water on that idea with the latest injury update.

"Zach's going to be out, I think we're going along with the plan," Macdonald said. "So plan was to get a great week's worth to see where we're at. So, we're taking it into next week, this is part of the plan."

Oh, and there was a roster move as well.

Cornerbakc Trevon Diggs, who signed with the team this offseason, has been released per the team. Diggs has played in three games for Seattle this season, registering one tackle in his 21 combined snaps.

Now back to Charbonnet.

In truth, it always felt like the Seahawks would play the slow game with Charbonnet.

He hasn't had a preseason and has only practiced for two weeks, so putting him out on the field with real NFL bullets flying could be seen as a big risk.

We are only six games into the season, so there is no need to rush him back sooner than originally planned, and it certainly seems like the Seahawks have a plan for Zach and they're sticking to it.

In fact, it might be a few weeks before we see him on an NFL field, as he is likely going through a mini preseason to get his conditioning to where it needs to be to play a game.

Two weeks of practice won't get him that, so it will at least be another week before we see Zach suiting up for Seattle this season.

It will once again be Emanuel Wilson and George Holani to be responsible for the rushing attack against the Chiefs, with Charbonnet forced to bide his time.

But good things come to those who wait, and after being out for long, what's another week to make sure you are 100 percent healthy and ready to roll?
