Charbonnet injured his ACL in the playoffs last season, and he might already be slated to return to football.
The Seattle Seahawks will face the 5-0 Kansas City Chiefs at Lumen Field on Sunday night, and they might just have a serious weapon returning for the fight.
We know that head coach Mike Macdonald stated there was a possibility that running back Zach Charbonnet, who injured his ACL in the playoffs last season, could see some action against the Chiefs.
Granted, fans were a little skeptical about Charbonnet, having missed so much time and only practicing for a couple of weeks, returning to the field on Sunday night.
Well, that skepticism might be over.
The Seahawks have officially activated Charbonnet off PUP (physically unable to perform list), and have added him to the active 53-man roster for the clash against Kansas City.
So, Seattle's redzone merchant (12 TDs last season) is now likely to be involved in some capacity. That is huge for this struggling offense.
We know that it has been Emanuel Wilson and George Holani as the two running backs behind Sam Darnold, and while there has been some good burn from Wilson, Holani has had a touch of the fumbles.
Plus, neither really scares a defense in terms of hitting a home run, as both are seen as powerful, bruising backs.
But Charbonnet? He's got the speed, the burst, and the explosiveness to rip off a 20+yard run at any moment, which is something this Seahawks offense desperately needs.
Now, fans shouldn't expect a big workload from Zach, as he is most likely set to be on a pitch count if he plays.
So maybe something like 10-15 snaps for the back in his long-awaited return is most likely what we'll see with Wilson and Holani sharing the rest of the workload.
After back-to-back defeats, the Seahawks need to turn this ship around, and while being 3-3 isn't bad, if the offense continues to play as it has in the past two weeks and gets outplayed by the Chiefs, the alarm bells will be ringing for Macdonald.
But they are at home, and have their backs against the wall for what feels like the first time since Macdonald's first year as coach in 2024.
And who knows, maybe having Charbonnet back on the field will be just the pick-me-up this Seattle team needs to halt this skid.
