Costly turnovers and self-inflicted wounds fueled a heartbreaking loss to San Francisco, leaving quarterback Sam Darnold demanding better execution before the Seahawks face a hostile road environment.

The Seattle Seahawks succumbed to a 32-29 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field in a Week 5 game that again saw the offense struggle.

Sam Darnold threw two interceptions, taking his tally to five in four games, while running back George Holani had two fumbles, one of which led to a direct touchdown for San Francisco as they recovered in the end zone.

It is now the fourth consecutive game in which the offense has had at least one turnover, and in two of those games, Seattle has had multiple turnovers.

That isn't a great spot to be in, and it has some questioning of Darnold and the offense, as this is now becoming a theme early in the season.

But does it have anything to do with the practice Seattle does throughout the week?

"No, we're practicing well, we got a lot of guys that love the process," Darnold said. "They love coming in every day to work, we all feel that way. But it's got to translate, and there's got to be a sense of urgency to make what we do in practice translate to the field.

"I know it will, but again, we got to have a little bit of a sense of urgency here to continue to get better, especially on a short week, headed to a really tough place to play."

So, it has to translate, and right now, it's not.

It is all good to practice to a high standard, but that means nothing if you show up on game day with self-inflicted wounds and lose.

Now, the Seahawks are at 3-2, so it isn't panic stations just yet for the champs, but these inconsistent performances have to be a little worrying, right? Granted we are five games in, but there is a theme here.

And with the Denver Broncos on the road next week on Thursday night, there isn't much time to dwell on the loss.

Mike Macdonald isn't too bothered by the offensive turnovers, citing the need to play complementary football, but if Darnold and the offense produce another multi-turnover game against Denver and Seattle loses, well, that is going to make some people a little uncomfortable because a conversation might need to be had.

For now, it's as you were in Seattle.
