NFL free agency is in full swing for the Seattle Seahawks, and we have seen the franchise retain a host of players while also seeing several walk out the door.
That is just part and parcel of the NFL and at this time of year, business is business.
Most knew the Seahawks were never going to be major players in free agency, quite frankly, because they didn't need to be.
A well-rounded roster meant general manager John Schneider's main focus was to try and retain as many players coming out of contract as possible.
Rashid Shaheed, Josh Jobe, Drake Thomas, Josh Jones, Chris Stoll, A.J. Finley, Jake Bobo, George Holani and Ty Okada were retained.
And now we have another player who has put pen to paper for Seattle.
Defensive tackle Brandon Pili has signed a one-year, $2 million deal per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
A bit-part player for Mike Macdonald's dominant defense, Pili still played a role for Seattle in 2025.
He played 13 games (started one), and posted two sacks, a forced fumble and 12 combined tackles from his defensive tackle position.
Having played just 12 games in his previous two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Pili saw the field far more under Macdonald, playing 152 snaps on defense, along with another 42 on special teams.
Compare that to his combined 122 across two seasons in Miami. Yeah, Macdonald likes Brandon.
Now, this won't be a move that breaks the internet, but one key aspect of free agency and roster construction is getting good depth players, and Pili qualifies as just that.
Armed with the ability to control the line of scrimmage, assist in the run game, and be full throttle every play, it is clear to see why the Seahawks brought him back.
Yes, there are other stars on the defense for Seattle, but as we know, sometimes the depth pieces are just as important. When starters need a break, the drop-off from backups can't be glaring.
Pili helps with that, and in 2026, he'll assume his role as a perhaps unheralded part of the Seattle defense.
