Despite landing Quenton Nelson, Seattle’s stagnant 4-4 offense desperately needs more firepower. GM John Schneider remains active, eyeing potential blockbuster moves for playmakers before the November deadline.
It's rare that a defending Super Bowl team trades for an All-Pro standout ... and is left having to admit that it probably needs to do more.
The Seattle Seahawks made a monster move last week when they traded for Colts guard Quenton Nelson. That figures to pay off, even in the wake of their Monday night loss to the Chicago Bears.
Now QB Sam Darnold - who some think is suffering from a "regression'' but who for certain is suffering from a quad injury that will push him off the field this week - is a concern.
But the biggest issue that has the Seahawks floating along at 4-4 is the lack of offensive weaponry. ...
Maybe at two positions.
At wide receiver? Rashid Shaheed is injured and Cooper Kupp is not effective, leaving Jaxon Smith-Njigba toocarry too big of a load.
And at running back? The Seahawks aren't getting production there, either. Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet returned against the Bears, but Seattle's rushing attack produced just 73 yards between four running backs.
Yes, they miss Kenneth Walker, who took his Super Bowl MVP trophy to Kansas City.
So, GM John Schneider, what is there to do?
“We’re still talking to several teams,” Schneider said on Seattle Radio Network before Monday night's game. “The majority of the teams will wait until the very deadline … We talk about being able to improve your team all throughout the year and keeping your powder dry a little bit.”
So, sit on the edge of our seats until Nov. 10?
We are here for it, wondering if another call to the Colts for receiver Josh Downs should be made.
Oh, and another call to the Colts for superstar Jonathan Taylor, too.
Darold is not going to single-handedly carry this team to contention. Nor is temp replacement Drew Lock.
Seattle needs a talent injection on offense ... and John Schneider seems to be keenly aware of that fact.
