Seattle’s elite red zone threat is ramping up activity after a devastating ACL tear, providing a vital morale boost for a backfield currently leaning on depth.

The Seattle Seahawks are six weeks into the season and are yet to play a full, four-quarter game of high-quality football.

With injuries to the running back room, seeing Seattle have to raid the Washington Commanders' practice squad, now star Zach Charbonnet is edging closer to a return.

Having made his return to practice recently, Charbonnet, who tore his ACL in the playoff win over the San Francisco 49ers last season, is making positive strides.

Both Sam Darnold and Brian Fleury have stated the positive impact Charbonnet has had since returning to the practice field, but as we know, his proper football return is still a little ways away.

But returning to practice is a big tick, especially at this time of the season for the running back, and his head coach, Mike Macdonald, has liked what he's seen from Zach so far.

"He's done great," Macdonald said recently "We're on schedule here, so we'll see. Next week's will be a little tricky with the speed and tempo of practice, but I think we're in a great spot ...''

Those reps have been going to Emanuel Wilson and George Holani.

But there is no denying that Charbonnet, who before his injury was Seattle's best red-zone threat (12 TDs), is getting closer to an NFL return.

At some point - maybe being 3-3 is that point - there is going to be some "all-hands-on-deck'' pressure here. But really, all that the running back can do is stack good days of practice, get confidence in his knee, and have no setbacks.

If he does that, his return, as Macdonald says, will be on schedule.

With Jadarian Price also injured, the Seahawks have had to rely on Holani and Wilson as their one-two punch, but perhaps some time toon, both Price and Charbonnet could return to the fold.

And that would be a significant upgrade to the run game for Fleury and a Seattle team that right now could use another offensive spark.
