After losing the backup battle in Tennessee, the former second-round pick heads to the Big Apple to replace Bailey Zappe and fight for a future roster spot.

The Tennessee Titans are beginning to prepare for their Week 3 matchup with the New York Giants.

Before then, there was some new concerning a former player.

All offseason, it felt like we were waiting for the Titans to move on from Will Levis. His fate was basically sealed when the Titans drafted Cam Ward No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Then, in case there were any doubts, the Titans brought in Mitchell Trubisky this offseason. Levis had to compete with Trubisky for the backup quarterback job and lost in the preseason.

Once the preseason ended, you could tell that Levis had realized that his time with the franchise was coming to a close. After the Chicago Bears game, Levis was reflective on his time with the Titans.

The team then announced the 53-man roster the next day and waived Levis.

Levis cleared waivers and was then allowed to pursue any NFL team he wanted. It was reported at the beginning of September that Levis was trying out for the New York Jets' practice squad.

Levis competed with Jack Plummer for the Jets' practice squad QB spot. It's apparent that Levis didn't win the job.

He just had to wait a little bit longer to become a member of the Jets. NFL Analyst Jordan Schultz reported Tuesday that Levis was signing with the Jets.

The Jets already have two quarterbacks on the roster. Geno Smith is the starter, with Cade Klubnik as the backup.

Smith has shown nothing to make the Jets think he's incapable of being their starter. He's thrown for 462 passing yards and one touchdown in two games.

Klubnik is still going to be the backup, so what does this mean for Levis?

You have to look at the Jets' practice squad transactions to figure out why they brought Levis in. Bailey Zappe was the Jets' practice squad quarterback, but the team let him go.

Levis is going to be the practice squad quarterback unless something happens to either Smith or Klubnik, which doesn't seem likely.

Who knows? Maybe Levis will get his chance to prove he can be a starting-caliber quarterback in the NFL again with the Jets. Weirder things have happened in the NFL.

If it hadn't been for Baker Mayfield's stint with the Los Angeles Rams a few years ago, he wouldn't be in the position he is today.

For now, he'll be on the practice squad biding his time as the Jets prepare to take on the Detroit Lions in Week 3.
