After being waived by Tennessee, the former signal-caller is already auditioning for a future opponent. A potential reunion looms as one team considers adding the veteran quarterback.
The Tennessee Titans let go of quarterback Will Levis on Sunday after he spent four years with the franchise.
Levis was one of the players who were waived to free up room for the 53-man roster after the final preseason game. You could tell Levis had an idea that his time with the franchise was over in his final interview, as he was noticeably emotional after the Chicago Bears game.
It was always going to be a tough mountain for him to climb when it came to making the roster with Mitchell Trubisky in the quarterback room. You had the sense that he wouldn't be a Titan for much longer after they drafted Cam Ward No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Levis fought hard to make the team but couldn't beat Trubisky for the backup QB role.
Now that Levis has cleared waivers, he is officially an unrestricted free agent. He can talk to any team that he wants to see if they wish to sign him.
Levis is moving pretty quickly and reportedly has already worked out for one NFL team. The catch is that it's a team the Titans will be facing pretty soon.
The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt reported Thursday that the team worked out two quarterbacks. One of them was Jack Plummer, and the other was Levis.
As fate would have it, the Titans take on the Jets in their season opener.
Before we start drawing any conclusions about this move, Rosenblatt noted that the workouts were to determine who the practice squad quarterback would be. On top of that, the Jets already have two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.
New York has Geno Smith and rookie Cade Klubnik out of Clemson.
If the Titans see Levis in any capacity, it sounds like he won't be dressing and will be on the bench. That's only if he does enough in his workout to make the room and somehow gets elevated to the active roster in time for the season opener on Sept. 13.
It's not surprising that Levis has been talking to the Jets. Earlier this offseason, the Jets were named a team to watch for Levis by ESPN's Rich Cimini. Cimini believed that the Jets would be open to trading for Levis.
It seems he was wrong about the trade, but right in the fact that there was interest from the Jets in Levis.
We'll have to wait and see if Levis makes the team. It would be a quick turnaround to see Levis this soon after the Titans cut ties with him recently.
Titans' fans might see Levis very soon. Kickoff for the season opener is at noon CT on CBS live from Nissan Stadium.
