Thinking about when the Minnesota Vikings could suffer their first loss of the 2026 NFL season.

The Minnesota Vikings enter their week sitting at 5-0, which means that they are one of three undefeated teams left. The other two undefeated teams are the San Francisco 49ers, who are 5-0, and the Kansas City Chiefs, who are 4-0. As a result of the Vikings starting 5-0, there have been plenty of storylines, but in the end, this team is 5-0, and how they got here does not really matter.

With that said, there is one interesting question to take a look at when thinking about Minnesota's undefeated start. When will the Vikings suffer their first loss of the 2026 NFL season?

In answering this question, it is very important to keep in mind the pressure that could be on the Vikings with each win they get to stay undefeated. On that note, it could benefit this team to potentially drop a game soon, just because it will give them the opportunity to respond to adversity earlier rather than later.

Now, getting back to when the first loss could come, it will not come this week as Minnesota is on a bye, but the next few games for the Vikings are pretty tough.

Following the bye week, the Vikings have a very tough five game stretch that includes road games against the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers in addition to home games against the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, and San Francisco 49ers.

Looking at that five week gauntlet, it would be very impressive if the Vikings were able to pick wins in all of those games and if that was the case, they would be off to a 10-0 start and likely in the drivers seat for the NFC North title as well as home-field advantage and the No. 1 overall seed in the postseason.

While the Vikings would like to start 10-0, that is a very tough task to accomplish and the game that could be circled as the first loss for the Vikings in 2026 is that road game against the Lions.

The reason that the road game against the Lions is circled is the fact that this is a divisional game, and oftentimes crazy things can happen in these games. Because the Vikings and the Lions are in the same division, they play each other twice a year, and with that said, Minnesota swept Detroit last year, so the Lions will definitely be looking for revenge.

Additionally, Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Amon-Ra St. Brown are having an incredible year together and have built an offense that is very dynamic.

Aside from the Lions, the Colts could be a tough game with Jonathan Taylor and the rush attack, the Bills have arguably the best quarterback in the game with Josh Allen, the Packers are another division rival and will want to redeem their Week 1 loss to Minnesota, and the 49ers are simply clicking on all cylinders and have been one of the most consistent teams thus far to start 2026.

Getting back to the Vikings, they have some great minds on the coaching staff, with head coach Kevin O'Connell and defensive coordinator Brian Flores. However, in the end, it will come down to the players to execute, so quarterback Kyler Murray, wide receiver Justin Jefferson, edge rusher Dallas Turner, cornerback Byron Murphy Jr., and kicker Will Reichard must continue to play consistently to put the Vikings in a position to keep winning.

With all that said, the Vikings need to use the bye week to heal up and prepare for a brutal stretch, and when they begin preparations for Week 7 against the Colts, it will be interesting to see if Minnesota is still able to play consistently and stack wins, or if their first loss will come sooner rather than later.
