Taking a look at one key question the Minnesota Vikings have to answer on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
The Minnesota Vikings head into Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins with a 3-0 record, however, there is one key question that the Vikings have to answer as to whether or not they will win on Sunday.
Can quarterback Kyler Murray and the offense find a way to get going and put themselves in a position to have an explosive performance?
The reason this question needs to be answered is the fact while this team is 3-0, the offense has not been able to truly take over a game yet and at times this unit has struggled.
In Week 1, the Vikings did score 39 points, but defensive coordinator Brian Flores and his defense were a huge catalyst for that as they forced turnovers constantly in the second half to set up the offense with good field position.
Additionally, in that game, Murray went out early, which forced quarterback Carson Wentz to come in, but even in a tough spot, Wentz delivered and capitalized on the opportunities he needed to.
That is not to say the offense was bad in Week 1, the point is that the offense needed a little boost to get going. Once the offense did get going, they were in a great spot and got into a solid rhythm.
The following week, in Week 2, the offense totaled nine points with Wentz leading the offense as Murray was out, and while the conditions were not ideal for the offense to have success, it was a week where the offense was unable to put consistent drives together. However, the Vikings did win the game 9-3, so it was just good enough.
Last week, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Murray was back in the lineup, but the offense struggled with consistency on a drive-to-drive basis. However, there were some explosive plays as wide receiver Myles Price returned a punt for an 86-yard touchdown, and on offense, Murray threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordan Addison.
All that said, other than those two plays, the Vikings struggled to move the ball, which was partly due to wide receiver Justin Jefferson being out most of the game with an injury. While Minnesota did struggle offensively, they got the win 23-16, which is the important part.
Speaking of Jefferson, he was ruled out for this game on the final injury report for the Vikings heading into Sunday against the Dolphins. With that said, it will be very interesting to see how head coach Kevin O'Connell and Murray attack Miami and which offensive playmakers get a lot of touches for Minnesota.
On that note, as mentioned, the Vikings have to figure out a way to have an explosive week on the offensive side because that has not really happened yet, but if it does the defense and the special teams that Minnesota has puts this team in a position to dominate and possibly make a strong claim as a top five team in the NFL.
So, heading into Sunday, it will be intriguing to watch the game plan for Murray and O'Connell offensively and whether or not this team can have an explosive day on offense, because if they can, this team could very well be on the verge of being an elite NFL team this season.
