Bayern Munich appear ready to bring João Palhinha’s spell at the club to an early end, with reports indicating that the Bundesliga champions are prioritising a permanent transfer rather than another loan arrangement, valuing the player at the €25 million mark.

Bayern Announce Price Tag

According to the information shared by BILD, Bayern would ideally agree a fee in the region of €25 million for the Portuguese midfielder, if Benfica wish to submit an offer, although discussions remain at a preliminary stage.

Bayern have ruled out a temporary departure, signalling a clear intention to secure a full transfer for the 31-year-old.

While Benfica are keeping a close eye on developments, there is currently no agreement between the Portuguese club and Palhinha himself, and formal negotiations with Bayern have yet to begin.

Palhinha's Struggle For Consistency

Palhinha arrived in Munich with a reputation as one of Europe’s most effective defensive midfielders following an impressive spell at Fulham in the Premier League. Renowned for his aggressive ball-winning ability, positional awareness, and leadership, he was expected to provide defensive balance to Bayern’s midfield.

However, his time in Germany has not unfolded as expected. Competition for places, tactical adjustments, and injuries have limited his impact, preventing him from establishing himself as an automatic starter.

Bayern’s midfield has continued to evolve, leaving Palhinha struggling for consistent opportunities despite his undeniable qualities.

Permanent Sale

From Bayern’s perspective, a permanent sale would help reshape the squad while recovering a portion of the significant investment made to sign the Portugal international.

Could Benfica Bring Palhinha Back to Portugal?

For Benfica, Palhinha represents an intriguing option. Having previously developed through Portuguese football before making his name abroad, a return home could provide both the player and the Lisbon club with mutual benefits.

His experience at international level and in Europe’s top leagues would add leadership, physicality, and tactical discipline to Benfica’s midfield.

Personal terms would need to be agreed, Bayern’s valuation must be met, and Benfica would likely need to balance the financial demands of the deal with their own transfer budget.

At this stage, the situation remains one to watch rather than an imminent transfer. Bayern’s desire to sell is reportedly clear, Benfica’s interest is genuine, but with no negotiations currently underway,

Palhinha’s future remains unresolved. As the summer transfer window progresses, discussions could accelerate, one to watch.
