Borussia Dortmund Set For Talks Over Contracts For Several First-Team Regulars

One of the more likely renewals of contracts is Waldemar Anton. The German defender has been a stalwart for Borussia Dortmund for the past two seasons, proving to be a consistent, experienced and reliable defender at this level. And at the age of 29 years old, he is in the peak years of his career.

So it is no wonder that Borussia Dortmund are more than open to extending his stay at the club beyond his current 2028 expiration date. 

Reports have emerged that he has approached Borussia Dortmund regarding an extension and is set to sit down and finalise a new deal after the World Cup, with the plan being that he is given a contract until 2030. 

The next player who is seemingly guaranteed a new contract unless he chooses that he wants to move away from the Signal Iduna Park is Gregor Kobel.

The Swiss goalkeeper has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the game and has become Borussia Dortmund's undisputed number one goalkeeper, a title he has held for the past five seasons at the club. 

And while the club are aware of his openness to a move to England, if this does not materialise, the club intends to enter discussions regarding a contract extension as his current deal runs until the end of 2028. 

The next two players are on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to the likelihood of them being offered fresh terms.

Firstly, Ramy Bensebaini, who has just come off the back of his best season in a Borussia Dortmund shirt, scoring 7 goals and registering 3 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions. 

The issue is for Ramy Bensebaini, who is 31 years old, and his current contract runs until the end of next season. 

The club are accepting of the fact that there is minimal transfer value attached to Ramy Bensebaini and would instead not intend on opening discussions for a new deal until at least halfway through next season, so they can evaluate how he has been performing in the first half of the season. 

So with this contract, the ball is firmly in Borussia Dortmund's court.

A final contract that follows a similar style to Ramy Bensebaini's is that of Marcel Sabitzer. Marcel Sabitzer has been a consistent figure in and around the first team of Borussia Dortmund since his move from Bayern Munich in July 2023. 

However, with the recent acquisition of Jobe Bellingham and the rumours of Borussia Dortmund looking to bring in another deeper-lying midfielder this summer, it would appear that gametime may become limited for the Austrian International. 

That is why at this moment, it is being reported by SportBild that it is increasingly likely that Marcel Sabitzer leaves Borussia Dortmund at the end of his current contract, which is at the end of next season. 

And if Marcel Sabitzer wishes to stay, he would need to prove to the club that he can still produce top-level performances, at the age of 32, as well as take a salary reduction on the €7 million a year he currently earns.

In summary, it seems as though the club are trying to be proactive when it comes to contracts this summer, and is trying to avoid their best players entering into the final years of their deals, such as Gregor Kobel and Waldemar Anton

However, with players such as Marcel Sabitzer and Ramy Bensebaini, the club are more hesitant on committing to these players for multiple more years, knowing their age, wages and likelihood of reduced gametime. 

So it would appear those players will have their future at the club clarified further into next season.
