After establishing himself as a top defender in the Bundesliga, Waldemar Anton is of interest to clubs from the rest of Europe who have been eyeing up a move for the German international this summer, with one of those clubs coming from the Premier League.
Waldemar Anton has become increasingly influential and important for Borussia Dortmund over the past two years since moving from VfB Stuttgart at the start of the 2024/25 season. He has become a senior figure, not only within Borussia Dortmund’s backline but also within their squad as a whole, with him being one of the oldest members in the squad, at the age of 29 years old.

Reports from Ruhr 24 and The Mirror have suggested that Manchester United have held a long-standing interest in the German defender and would be keen on trying to make a deal happen this summer. Michael Carrick, the current Manchester United manager, has reportedly sent scouts to watch Waldemar Anton in the 2nd half of the season just gone, and was clearly impressed.
Now, it is clear why Manchester United may want Waldemar Anton as an addition to their defence, given the inconsistent availability of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez. Waldemar Anton would provide the Premier League side with a consistent and experienced defender who has been playing in the Bundesliga for six seasons in a row at a high level, proving to be one of the Bundesliga’s best, as shown through Waldemar Anton's call-up to Julien Nagelsmann's Germany World Cup squad this summer.

However, Borussia Dortmund would be under no pressure to sell as Waldemar Anton is under contract until 2028, and he was one of Niko Kovac’s most-used players for Borussia Dortmund in the campaign just gone, playing 86 games across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund since he moved to the club.

Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to entertain the idea of losing one of their most influential players in this summer’s transfer window. Furthermore, Dortmund are already targeting other priority positions this summer.
So, for the club to have to add on top of that the replacement of a starting defender would seem like an unnecessary headache that Borussia Dortmund don’t need to self-inflict on themselves, unless they were to receive an eye-watering fee that they couldn't possibly turn down.
