With goals lacking compared to some of their Bundesliga competitors last season, Niko Kovac and Borussia Dortmund are looking to add some creative spark to their forward line, while two defenders linked with moves away could allow Dortmund to secure their attacking maestro.
Many incomings and outgoings are expected this summer at Dortmund as Niko Kovac looks to refresh his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, and with the World Cup looming ever closer, teams around the world are pushing hard to complete deals before it begins. Here is an update on the recently linked incomings and outgoings at the Signal Iduna Park this summer.
Starting with the potential arrivals into Dortmund, and in terms of specific personnel, there isn’t much to report at this stage. However, BILD have reported in recent days that Dortmund have identified a priority position for which they are seeking reinforcements this summer.
That position in question is an attacking player, more specifically, a number 10. Someone capable of producing a magic moment, dragging the team through games they are struggling in, and someone who can help unlock defences in tight matches.
Furthermore, the Dortmund hierarchy is hoping that an addition to the attacking ranks will, in turn, encourage Serhou Guirassy to stay at the club, amid interest from Turkey. Guirassy and Dortmund have reportedly held a meeting, and within that meeting, the club outlined their intentions in the upcoming transfer window, promising attacking additions to help create more goals for the striker, who has already come off the back of a 26-goal season.
The hope is that with the promise of more opportunities for goals being set up for Guirassy, he is less likely to look to other clubs in search of a better move and will instead remain a Borussia Dortmund player going into the new season, despite links with not only Turkey but also a move to the Premier League in the form of Aston Villa, according to BILD.
Onto potential outgoings from Dortmund this summer, and there have been 2 players in particular linked with moves away this summer, both coming from the defence.
Yan Couto is one player who has been linked with an exit this summer. Couto started just 11 games in the Bundesliga for Dortmund in the season just gone, with Niko Kovac preferring Julian Ryerson in the right wingback role. Reports have emerged from Matteo Moretto that Champions League qualifiers Como are interested in a deal for the Brazilian full-back and are in talks with Dortmund over a transfer for the 23-year-old.
Katie Stratman-Imagn ImagesThis could be a deal that Dortmund allow to happen, given Couto’s lack of minutes this season and Ryerson only missing one game through injury last campaign.
The other possible transfer outgoing at Dortmund comes in the form of Daniel Svensson. The left-wing back was a consistent starter for Dortmund for most of the season, although his minutes did diminish towards the tail end of the season, with Niko Kovac choosing to convert Max Beier into a left-wing back.
Brett Davis-Imagn ImagesThis may well have just been Kovac experimenting with his team towards the end of the season with nothing to really play for, but the Swedish international is of interest to AC Milan if their current left back, Pervis Estupinan, leaves Milan this summer, according to Luca Cohen, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic identifying Dortmund's wing back as their favoured replacement.
Whether any of these departures actually happen remains to be seen, but Dortmund’s area of recruitment seems clear, and if the sale of one or two players, like Yan Couto and/or Daniel Svensson, allows the club to pursue these targets, then there may be deals to be done there in order for the club to raise more funds to secure their main targets this summer.
