An addition to the personnel who help run Borussia Dortmund has arrived with expectations high following previous success.
Will Ole Book and David Blacha Be Able To Replicate Their Past Success at Borussia Dortmund?
It has long been rumoured that Borussia Dortmund were planning on bringing in another person to help with player recruitment and aid the running of the overall sporting side of the club, and those rumours have now become a reality.
The club have announced that David Blacha will join Borussia Dortmund’s sporting management staff from July 1st 2026, as an assistant to the current Sporting Director, Ole Book.
Who Is David Blacha?
David Blacha is a German-born former professional footballer who spent almost all of his career playing in the lower leagues of German football. However, he does have previous links with Borussia Dortmund.
Before his moves around the lower tiers of German football, David Blacha came through Borussia Dortmund’s youth system, spending a total of nine years at the club. However, he wasn’t able to make it as a professional footballer and ended up moving to Rot Weiss Ahlen in 2009 in order to begin his career in senior men's football.
He would go on to retire from professional football in 2023 and would move into a scouting role at SV Elversberg with immediate effect.
The Ole Book and David Blacha Connection
It was at this point that Ole Book and David Blacha would first cross paths, as while David Blacha worked as a scout at SV Elversberg, Ole Book was in a Sporting Director’s role at SV Elversberg at the same time as well.
The pair would go on to assemble a squad that got SV Elversberg promoted into the Bundesliga 2 three years ago. The pair of them would then help build the SV Elversberg squad up to eventually culminate in the campaign just gone, where, despite Ole Book leaving to go to Borussia Dortmund in March of this year, SV Elversberg achieved promotion into the Bundesliga.
Now Ole Book and David Blacha Look To Be Successful on a Giant Scale
It is clear now that David Blacha must have made a positive impression on Ole Book, so much so that it has earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund himself, with Ole Book stating in the club release regarding David Blacha’s arrival that, “David’s work has played a key role in SV Elversberg’s successful development over the past few years. I value his expertise and am delighted that we will be working together in Dortmund in future.”

The addition of David Blacha can only be a positive for Borussia Dortmund, and especially given the track record that the pair have from working together, it would seem like a perfect match.
The only question mark will be whether Ole Book and David Blecha replicate what they achieved at SV Elversberg, a small club in comparison to their task now at Borussia Dortmund?
