The Brazilian defender's time in Germany is seemingly up, with a move to Italy agreed in principle, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Today, it has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano that Yan Couto is set to move to Como on a loan deal until June 2027, and crucially for Borussia Dortmund, Yan Couto's salary will be covered by the Italian club in full for his season at the club, which stands at a reported €5.5 million a year (roughly €100,000 p/w).

This initial temporary departure from Borussia Dortmund brings to an end a disappointing two-year spell at the Signal Iduna Park since his €30 million transfer from Manchester City. Yan Couto has been unable to make that right back spot his own, despite showing glimpses of a quality right back, but at nowhere near a consistent level enough to be playing week in, week out for Borussia Dortmund.

Furthermore, his amount of minutes significantly dropped in the latter half of last season, as since March, he only managed 41 minutes worth of Bundesliga action, showing how significantly he had fallen out of favour at the club, with Niko Kovac previously stating that Yan Couto was quite low morale-wise.
It is for these reasons that both parties have agreed it is necessary for them to part ways with one another, even in the form of a loan spell, because things could not continue the way they had been.

For a large part of the campaign just gone, it seemed that a parting of ways between Yan Couto and Borussia Dortmund seemed inevitable.
Yan Couto wasn't getting a sniff of a starting spot, and all the time that he was spending on the bench, he himself was becoming unhappier, which is never good to have around a squad you are trying to progress forward.
Additionally, from Borussia Dortmund's point of view, the player is losing value by sitting on the bench playing next to no minutes, so getting him game time elsewhere, hoping he does well with Como, who are competing in next season's top European competition in the form of the UEFA Champions League alongside Borussia Dortmund, and then selling him off the back of that looks like the route Borussia Dortmund are going down with Yan Couto.
