The player in question is Bosnian international Benjamin Tahirovic. The deep-lying midfielder has been playing his club football in the Danish league for Brøndby IF since February 2025, after stints at Roma and Ajax, respectively.
The 23-year-old is considered one of the rising stars in football and is considered one of the best assets that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Brøndby IF have.

This shows that there is definitely something that multiple coaches and clubs have seen that Borussia Dortmund could acquire for a nominal fee in comparison to other potential options or previous options in that position.

It has been reported by Patrick Berger (Sky Sports) that Borussia Dortmund have already made their interest in Benjamin Tahirovic clear to Brøndby IF.
However, the recent changes in the Sporting Director role and his new assistant have meant that Borussia Dortmund have stepped back from the pursuit of the player for now.
But Benjamin Tahirovic does remain part of a shortlist for the defensive midfield position, and one of the most enticing aspects of this possible deal is the financial package involved with it.
It has been reported in the same Patrick Berger report that Benjamin Tahirovic would cost less than €10 million, which, in the current transfer market and given the fees being thrown around for players of a similar profile, would be a phenomenal piece of business for Borussia Dortmund.
However, Brøndby IF are likely to wait until after the ongoing World Cup in the hope that Benjamin Tahirovic makes an impact and boosts his value.

This is a player in Benjamin Tahirovic that has had stints at high-profile clubs, has just come off the back of a successful club season, fits the age profile that Borussia Dortmund are trying to recruit for this summer, and most importantly, could cost less than €10 million.
Therefore, it would seem a no-risk or very low-risk transfer for the club to pursue, but whether they will remains to be seen, as I would imagine any move for Benjamin Tahirovic is on hold until Bosnia and Herzegovina's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup has concluded.
