The Gunners face stiff competition and a massive valuation gap as they move for Leipzig’s Norwegian star, whose explosive Bundesliga form has Europe’s elite clubs on high alert.
Antonio Nusa has spent the opening months of the season establishing himself as one of RB Leipzig's most important attacking players. Arsenal may soon test how determined the club is to keep him.
The Premier League side are preparing an opening offer worth around €40 million for the Norwegian winger, according to journalist Ekrem Konur, with Tottenham Hotspur also among the clubs showing serious interest.
Leipzig's position is considerably higher.
The club is reportedly looking for between €60 million and €65 million before it would consider selling Nusa, and has no intention of allowing him to leave during the winter window unless an exceptional offer changes the conversation.
It is a valuation that has been building for some time.
In July, RB valued Nusa at more than €60 million following his impressive performances for Norway at the World Cup. However, according to our sources, the club will demand an even higher fee as the current expectation is that he will deliver a strong season in Germany, further boosting his market value.
So far, that is exactly what has happened.
Nusa has started the Bundesliga season with two goals and two assists in four appearances, becoming Leipzig's leading scorer during the early weeks of Martín Demichelis' tenure. His performance against Hamburg was particularly difficult to ignore: one goal, two assists, and a central role in a 5-0 victory.
Arsenal are far from alone in noticing.
Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also monitoring Nusa, while Roma made initial enquiries last summer. Milan, Inter, Juventus and Napoli are following him from Italy, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid also named among the clubs keeping track of his development.
Tottenham's interest has deeper roots. The North London club has followed Nusa since his time at Club Brugge and was again linked with him during the summer. In July, Spurs viewed the Norwegian as a potential addition to their attack as they searched for greater quality on the left.
There is, however, an important difference between the number of clubs watching Nusa and his own position.
He has shown little desire to force Leipzig's hand.
When speculation around Roma emerged during the summer, Nusa said he had never requested a transfer and dismissed much of the discussion around his future as rumours.
His relationship with Demichelis has only strengthened that position.
Speaking to Sport Bild recently, Nusa praised the Argentine coach and the role he has been given in Leipzig's attack. He also offered a revealing answer when asked about the enormous transfer valuations now attached to players: his responsibility, he said, was simply to play good football.
That approach has served him well.
Nusa arrived from Club Brugge in 2024 for around €21 million. Two years later, Leipzig could be asking almost three to four times that amount; his contract runs until 2029, and some of Europe's wealthiest clubs are positioning themselves around him.
A €40 million Arsenal offer, should it arrive, would therefore appear more like the beginning of a conversation than the end of one.
Leipzig does not need to sell at the moment. Nusa is not asking to leave. But the list of interested clubs is growing, and another few months of performances like these will only make the numbers larger.
First came the interest. Now Arsenal are reportedly preparing to put money behind it.
From here the stage only gets bigger.
